The Wedding Guide

Tips for planning your wedding

I’ve put together a wedding day guide to help you plan out your wedding day and a photography timeline to best capture your wedding day!

This is of course just a guide and many weddings vary so if you’re doing something totally different, that’s great! Let me know your plans and I can help you plan out the best times for each component of your day.

Booking Your Wedding Session

OUR PROCESS

Step 1 - Book

Setup a meeting with couple to review wedding date, time and location along with day of details. Review contract, sign and collect the deposit to hold your date.

Step 2 - Final Details

Setup another meeting a few weeks before the big day to review final details of your wedding, confirm times and remaining balance due.

Step 3 - Wedding Day!

Wedding Day! I always like to arrive a little to early to check out the venue and get setup. I will capture every moment and be by your side the whole time.

Step 4 - The Reveal

I take anywhere from 1,000 - 4,000 pictures during your day. I will go through each image and pick out the very best ones, edit them and load them into your client gallery. Processing time takes 3-4 weeks, once completed you will receive an email and access to your online gallery.

Guide & Tips

The Dress, Suits, Shoes, Rings and Other Details

Allow 20 minutes for the details to be captured

Once I arrives I will check in with the bride and the groom, I will collect all details (rings, dress, flowers, belts, shoes etc.) and photograph all these details prior to the wedding party getting dressed. Tip - hold off getting dressed early so the photographer is able to get these detail shots.

Bride & Groom Preparations

Allow 1.5 hours for getting ready to be captured

For the bride – Make sure that you leave yourself enough time for hair and makeup. Schedule in your hair and makeup artists to arrive early and finish up an hour prior to you leaving your location for the ceremony. This will give you some buffer time in case things get held up a little (which does happen!) and will also give your photographer time to capture all your small details, bridal portraits, group photos and fun candid shots of you all getting ready.

For the groom – I suggest that everyone is showered and that all the items are together in one room so when the photographer arrives they can choose a nice bright area in the house that the boys can all get ready in and capture this.

Tip - When everyone is ready if there’s the time, it’s great to capture individual portraits and bridal party shots as well as candid images before everyone heads to the ceremony.

The First Look!

Allow 30 minutes to capture this moment

Not all brides do, some are more traditional (I'm a sucker for traditional) but if you’re incorporating a first look into your day, allow time after the bridal party is all ready for you both to meet. The first look only lasts for a few minutes but if time permits, the photographer may take some time to do some couple photos before the ceremony.

Tip- This is also another great time to allow for the photographer to capture wedding party and family photo's if you want them done before the ceremony.

Ceremony

Allow 30-45 minutes

Ceremonies average around half an hour depending on what elements you have chosen to include in your ceremony. When the ceremony is finished, the photographer will capture the congratulations and exit of the bride and groom as they come back down the aisle along with the bridal party.

Tip - I recommend to my couples to pause at the end of the isle, pose and share one more kiss! Makes for another great shot to capture.

Family Photo's | Bride & Groom Portraits

Allow 20-45 minutes

After the congratulations, the photographer will gather the entire wedding party and all the guests together for group shots. The location will usually be very close to the ceremony area so that guests don’t have to go far.

Tip - If you’re able to allocate someone to assist that knows all the family members, this will greatly help the photographer in gathering the family groups for images with the bride and groom.

At The Reception

The photographer will capture guests throughout the night, the food that is served, the speeches and the first dance.

Depending upon your chosen wedding package and the hours included, you can arrange the events of the reception so that your photographer is there to capture them.

Sunset Session

Allow 30 minutes for location photos if time permits.

Having that moment in between events to capture bridal's along with bride and groom portraits something I highly recommend. The best time is near sunset when the light is beautiful and golden, creates the best pictures!
